Harsh Truths about Web sites

One of our designers shared this with the firm. I wanted to share with you! http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2009/02/10/10-harsh-truths-about-corporate-websites/

All things to all people?

I found the following note from Gail profound…It is excerpted from an August, 2007
post written by Robbin Phillips of Brains On Fire, (http://brainsonfire.com/blog/index.php/author/robbin/page/5/)

“‘The meek may inherit the earth, but if they are in business they will go
broke.’
“So many companies, especially B2B’s find themselves trying to be all things
to all people. Instead of finding the one thing on earth they STAND for,
they create painfully long lists of things they or their products do. It
takes hours for them to explain the business they are in, if they can
explain it at all. They have a clutter of information on their company,
clutter that ends up making them totally invisible. It takes courage to put
a stake in the ground and pronounce who you are and what you stand for.”

It has implications for our clients…but also for us.

Are you ready to experience a time of great courage? I am.

The New Annual Report

Sappi Fine Paper’s publication, @issue: published an article on corporate responsibility reports. These reports, which are printed by 90% of the top companies in Europe according to CorporateRegister.com, are published to address pertinent environmental, social, community and sustainability issues, define specific objectives, and benchmark progress. Sappi is a paper company and is of course, advocating companies print these reports (ok, they don’t say that directly; but that is my take on the article). However, I find it ironic that companies print these types of reports instead of distributing electronically. So now we are adding a printed publication to let our shareholders know how environmentally-friendly we are. This makes me laugh!

I think it is great if you choose to develop this report. Just find a way to distribute on line. The SEC does not require it; so publish it on-line!

Our environment for the next four years

This blog is not a place for politics. However, unless you’ve lived under a rock for the last year or so, you know that the environmental and energy polices of our next president is something most of us care deeply about. I think most of us agree that we want to see some changes — especially our dependency on foreign oil. I do!

I was rereading an article “Just the Tree of Us” from Newsweek’s April 14, 2008 issue to show the differences between Clinton, Obama and McCain. Now that we know who our next president will be, check out his proposed policies: http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/newenergy.

Will we see change? I hope so.

When your name is truly valuable…

…you don’t have to say much in your advertising. Unfortunately, the rest of us don’t have multibillion dollar budgets and name awareness (for reasons both good and bad) on practically every country on the planet, so we have to work a little harder in our advertising.
